The Pittsburgh Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is proud to announce the availability of grant funds for calendar year 2012.  Applications for breast cancer and breast health programs from nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies and educational institutions in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Greene, Huntingdon, Indiana, Jefferson, Juniata, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer, Mifflin, Somerset, Venango, Warren, Washington and Westmoreland counties are eligible for funding.

The promise of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for everyone and energizing science to find the cure. Susan G. Komen for the Cure runs one of the most innovative, responsive grant programs in breast cancer today.  Our Affiliate anticipates contributing over $500,000 to Komen National for research in 2011.

The Pittsburgh Affiliate funds non-duplicative, community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved in 30 western and central Pennsylvania counties.  For the 2011 grant year, we funded a record $1.4 million to local community programs.

Our grant funding cycle runs from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012. Eligible applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2010.  Announcements of funding will be made by the end of October, 2010.  The complete RFA is available on our Affiliate website at www.komenpittsburgh.org.  From the Affiliate Home page then select Grants tabs to navigate to the page with links to the grant application download.

Successful applications will address at least one of the priorities of our Affiliate’s 2009 Community Profile, which is available for download by selecting “Community Profile” our website’s Grants page.

♦ Potential grantees are urged to attend the Komen Grants Information Workshop to be held from 4:30 - 7:30 pm on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at The University Club in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.  The session is intended for the grant writer/grant program director to meet other grant applicants (and potential collaborators), learn about Komen Pittsburgh’s granting process, and discover key components necessary for a successful application for Komen funds.  Participation is free and a light dinner will be provided.  Those unable to attend in person will have the option to take part via simultaneous webinar/teleconference.  Registration required for either session; deadline is July 8 at noon.

To register for the Komen Grants Information Workshop contact Ruth Modzelewski, Mission Coordinator at 412-342-0500 or email rmodzelewski@komenpittsburgh.org.

If you have any questions about the process or to check if your idea for a grant is in alignment with our Community Profile, please contact Ruth at 412-342-0500 or email rmodzelewski@komenpittsburgh.org.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Holly Wald, Grants, Education and Advocacy Committee Co-Chair
